The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has revamped its organizational structure to a functional sector-based system effective November 1, 2026. The change aims to bolster security of critical infrastructure through specialized supervision and improved coordination.

On November 1, 2026, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) overhauled its operational framework from a territorial command system to a functional sector-based structure. The Ministry of Home Affairs concurred with this restructuring, which targets enhancing security for critical infrastructure by employing specialized supervision, bolstering coordination, and expediting decision-making processes. Previously, a single Sector Headquarters managed more than 50 diverse units encompassing various installations such as coal mines, power plants, and ports. The new structure categorizes units based on their specific installation type, enabling sector commanders to acquire specialized knowledge for addressing sector-specific security challenges.

Under the previous system, coordination was needed across multiple ministries due to the management of an extensive array of installations. As of today, supervision is streamlined according to the type of installation. The newly activated functional commands include:

– Power-I (New Delhi) and Power-II (Kolkata) Sectors

– Coal Sector (Ranchi)

– Steel Sector (Bhilai)

– Petroleum & Natural Gas Sector (Guwahati)

– West Coast Port (Mumbai) and East Coast Port (Chennai) Sectors

– Government Buildings, Museums & Monuments and Mass Rapid Transit System (GBMM & MRTS) Sector (New Delhi)
