The Government of India has maintained adequate availability of all major fertilizers across the States during the ongoing Kharif 2026 season through advance planning, continuous monitoring, and coordinated action with State Governments.
The Government of India has put in place a robust mechanism to ensure the timely and adequate availability of fertilizers across the country during every cropping season. Through advance planning, continuous monitoring, and coordinated action with State Governments, adequate availability of all major fertilizers viz. Urea, DAP, MOP, and NPKS has been maintained across the States during the ongoing Kharif 2026 season.
The Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), in consultation with State Governments, assesses State-wise and month-wise fertilizer requirements before every cropping season. Based on these projections, the Department of Fertilizers allocates fertilizer supplies through monthly supply plans and continuously monitors availability. The movement of subsidized fertilizers is tracked through the Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS), while regular weekly review meetings with State Agriculture officials help address emerging supply issues.
The Government has also implemented the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) Scheme w.e.f. 01.04.2010 for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) Fertilizers. Under this scheme, MRP of P&K fertilizers are decontrolled and companies are free to fix MRP as per their business dynamics at a reasonable level. The NBS subsidy is provided to manufacturer/ importer on notified P&K fertilizers on its PoS sale during the season, depending on their nutrient content to ensure availability of fertilizers to farmers.
