EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar met with President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, on the sidelines of CHOGM in Antigua and Barbuda. Three agreements were signed, and a new US$500 million Line of Credit was announced.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, on November 4, 2026, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda. The meeting aimed to discuss strengthening cooperation in various areas including trade, energy, agriculture, infrastructure development, digital technology, and capacity building. The two leaders reviewed their bilateral relations and found ways to further enhance them.

Three agreements were signed between the two countries: a) Supply and Installation of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) Manufacturing Projects, b) Grant Assistance for Implementation of Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), and c) Cooperation in the Field of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the Functioning of a Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-like System in Guyana. Additionally, EAM announced India’s extension of a US$500 million new Line of Credit to Guyana for supporting its development priorities and infrastructure projects.

India has already completed several development projects in Guyana, and the new Line of Credit will further strengthen the development partnership between the two countries. It is important to note that India and Guyana share longstanding and close relations, rooted in historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties. As Global South partners and members of the Commonwealth, India and Guyana continue to work together to strengthen their multifaceted cooperation and advance shared priorities for development and prosperity.
