Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscores the necessity of integrating the military and civilian wings of the Ministry of Defence for effective handling of evolving security and technological challenges.
During the 85th Armed Forces Headquarters Civilian Services Day celebrations in New Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the significance of greater integration between the uniformed and civil services of the Ministry of Defence. He stated that this integration is crucial to effectively address evolving security and technological challenges. The Minister underlined that military and administrative integration cannot proceed along separate paths.
In his address, Mr Singh also highlighted the need for continuity and expertise across policy, administration, human resource management, among others, as joint and integrated structures develop. He stressed the importance of structured cross-exposure between civilian and military officers through joint training programmes and developmental assignments, enabling both sides to learn from each other’s experiences.
The Defence Minister further stated that Armed Forces Headquarter (AFHQ) services are the institutional memory of the Ministry of Defence. Mr Singh said that AFHQ provides the Ministry of Defence with continuity, domain expertise, and policy stability. He also mentioned that AFHQ plays a vital role in strengthening civil-military synergy.
The Minister urged the AFHQ cadre to go beyond their mandate and role, contributing towards strengthening the country’s defence ecosystem through defence technology research, geo-strategic thinking, and new ideas.
