Indian Army and Royal Thai Army troops during a joint exercise

The Indian Army, primarily represented by troops from Infantry, participates in the 15th India-Thailand Joint Military Exercise named MAITREE. The aim is to foster military cooperation between the two nations, enhancing combined capabilities under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

The Indian Army contingent, primarily composed of troops from the Infantry, departed today for Thailand to participate in the 15th edition of the India-Thailand Joint Military Exercise, known as MAITREE. The Royal Thai Army, on the other hand, is represented by personnel from the Artillery.

The exercise will be conducted from August 18 to 31 at Vibhavadi Rangsit Camp, Surat Thani, Thailand. Last year's edition was held at Foreign Training Node, Umroi, Meghalaya in September 2025.

The aim of Exercise MAITREE is to foster military cooperation between India and Thailand. The exercise will enhance combined capabilities in executing Joint Counter Insurgency/ Terrorist Operations in Jungle and semi-urban Environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The training will include field exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and a culminating validation exercise.

Moreover, the contingents will exchange operational experience and showcase contemporary equipment and technologies employed during joint operations. This platform serves as an important opportunity for sharing best practices and strengthening military cooperation between India and Thailand, further reinforcing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two nations.
