Rajnath Singh emphasizes the need for self-reliance in building warships, offshore vessels and other related fields, describing it as vital for India's security. He also addresses the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for five projects of Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and Yantra India Limited.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has stressed the importance of self-reliance in building warships, offshore vessels, and other related fields, asserting that it is crucial for the security of the country. During a ceremony in Kolkata for five projects worth approximately 3400 crore rupees by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and Yantra India Limited (YIL), Mr Singh emphasized the need for good-quality maintenance services to make India a future shipbuilding hub. He stated that Atmanirbharta, or self-reliance, is of utmost importance in this field. The Minister also highlighted GRSE's potential to lead in future shipbuilding.

In addition, Mr Singh informed that GRSE is currently building a cargo ship for Germany. Emphasizing the need to rely on indigenous defence products, Rajnath Singh mentioned that the armed forces are showing increasing interest in products manufactured by India’s defence public sector undertakings. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was present at the occasion.

Mr Singh also noted that a growing vacuum in the global shipbuilding sector can be capitalized upon by India under the ‘Make in India’ campaign. He expressed that the contribution of GRSE and Yantra India Limited would be significant towards realizing a Viksit Bharat (Advanced India) by 2047. The minister lauded the efforts of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for the state government's cooperation in achieving the goal of Vikshit Bharat by 2047.

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining quality assurance and ensuring timely delivery of defence products for exports to the world. The Minister mentioned that the armed forces are now relying on indigenous products for their defense needs. Mr Singh stated that the state government is providing full cooperation in connection with internal security, and he hoped the state would take steps to usher in a new renaissance of development with the launch of these new projects. He mentioned that 11,000 acres of land have been provided by the state government for new projects.

The Minister also pointed out that Navratna company GRSE Limited has delivered more than 100 vessels in recent times. YIL is not only providing traditional weapons but also engaging in research and development. Among the five projects, three projects of GRSE mark a significant step towards enhancing the shipyard’s manufacturing capacity and infrastructure.
