The Delhi High Court has summoned Abhijit Iyer-Mitra and several media outlets in a privacy suit filed by Saurav Das, who alleges his personal information was revealed online. The posts containing the information have been removed, but the court is also seeking to prevent further dissemination.

On Monday, the Delhi High Court ordered political commentator Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, media portals The Pamphlet, Law Beat, and The Sunday Guardian, and social media account The Jaipur Dialogues to respond to a privacy suit filed by Cockroach Janta Party Spokesperson Saurav Das. The defendants have been asked to file their replies within 10 days, according to Bar and Bench.

Das alleges that persons from The Pamphlet entered his shared home in Delhi without permission on August 5, recorded parts of the property, and posted a video on social media platform X. Iyer-Mitra is said to have reposted the video, according to the lawyer representing Das.

The video posted by The Pamphlet showing his residential address received more than 2.1 million views and was reposted on August 10, Bar and Bench reported. Additionally, during a Law Beat programme, Iyer-Mitra is accused of disclosing Das's address by identifying his neighbour and incorrectly stating the monthly rent as approximately Rs 7 lakh.

Das seeks damages of over Rs 2 crore for alleged violations of privacy, dignity, and security, Live Law reported. He also claims that he faced increased risk of intimidation, harassment, and physical violence due to the repeated sharing of his residential details, coupled with previous violent threats against him.

The posts showing Das’ address on X were removed, but the lawyer has urged that they should not be restored. The suit asks the court to stop the defendants from publishing, sharing, or disclosing Das’ residential address and to remove videos and posts containing the information from public access. Additionally, it seeks directions to platforms X and Google to take down such content and prevent further dissemination of the information.

The matter will be heard next on September 14.
