In a significant development, the Calcutta High Court has mandated the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite its probe into the R G Kar Hospital rape and murder case. During a hearing before Justices Shampa Sarkar and Tirthankar Ghosh, the CBI was ordered to conclude the investigation within three weeks, overriding the initial request for an extension of four weeks. This decision followed the submission of a report related to the case by the CBI on a recent date. It is noteworthy that the next hearing in this matter has been scheduled for 24th September. The tragic incident took place at R G Kar Hospital in August 2024, leading to the rape and murder of a PGT second year doctor. Previously, Sanjoy Roy was found guilty in connection with this case and sentenced to life imprisonment.
