Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced the upcoming launch of the third Vande Bharat train between Jammu and Srinagar, with a halt at Udhampur also approved.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Jitendra Singh, announced that the third Vande Bharat train between Jammu and Srinagar will be launched soon. In a video message, he highlighted that the Ministry of Railways has also approved a halt at Udhampur following public demand.
Dr Singh emphasized that the approval for the Udhampur halt is significant due to earlier concerns about its feasibility. He expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Railways, and the Railway Minister for this development.
Reflecting on the railway network expansion in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Singh noted that the establishment of the Jammu railway station in 1972 marked the start of the network in the region. However, it took nearly five decades for the network to advance further. After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, railway connectivity was extended to Kathua and subsequently to Udhampur and the Kashmir Valley.
Dr Singh stated that railway connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, previously deemed difficult due to mountainous terrain, was completed despite several challenges. He also highlighted the construction of the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Reasi as a major engineering achievement.
He added that the railway journey has become an attraction for tourists, with many visitors traveling by train from Jammu to Srinagar to experience the scenic beauty along the route.
