Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced plans for the development of Balaghat district, now free from Naxal activities. The government has sanctioned ₹225 crore for the development of basic infrastructure in 100 extremely backward villages.

Balaghat district, notorious for its long history of Naxal violence, has finally seen an end to these activities according to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. He made this announcement during a visit to the region on Saturday, following the Jan Vishwas Abhiyan programme in Lanji, Balaghat district.

The government has sanctioned approximately ₹225 crore for the development of basic infrastructure in 100 extremely backward villages of Balaghat district. Work will be undertaken in every sector, including roads, electricity, water, education and healthcare. The funds will be used to establish hospitals, upgrade government schools and construct community buildings.

Under this initiative, a Baiga Development Authority will also be established for the educational, healthcare, employment, economic and social advancement of the Baiga community. This Authority aims to connect the Baiga community with education, livelihoods and skill development opportunities.

The government is promoting animal husbandry and agriculture-based industries to create local employment opportunities. Considering the tourism potential around Kanha National Park, steps have been taken to increase the number of homestays in the Lanji region. The Chief Minister emphasised the need for focused efforts for the Baiga community, which is among the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
