The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assumed control over the probe into the murder of Punjab’s anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, according to reports by The Hindu. On October 13, Jhota was shot dead inside a medical store in Mansa district while hosting a Facebook Live session. The accused, Ashwani Kumar, the medical store owner, confronted Jhota allegedly for selling drugs to an elderly man. This incident led to a heated argument between the two, resulting in Jhota's death. The post-mortem and cremation of Jhota are yet to be conducted as his family and supporters have refused to allow the funeral until they receive justice. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the Punjab government would hand over the case to the CBI, as demanded by Jhota’s family. Following this, a team from the central agency arrived in Mansa to take over records and evidence seized in the case. After taking over the case, the CBI stated that Jhota’s post-mortem will be conducted at a medical institute in Chandigarh.
