Indian Women’s Hockey Team receives a cash award of INR 50 lakhs for their fifth-place finish at the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026. The team defeated World No. 5 Germany and held higher-ranked teams to draws.
Hockey India, the national governing body for field hockey in India, has announced a cash award of INR 50 lakhs (approximately USD 630,000) for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team following their historic fifth-place finish at the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026 held in Belgium and the Netherlands. The team secured this position after defeating World No. 5 Germany 3-1 in Amstelveen on Thursday. This marks India’s best World Cup finish since securing fourth place in the inaugural edition in 1974.
Captain Salima Tete led the team, which lost only one match during the tournament. They held higher-ranked teams such as China, England, and Australia to draws and recorded a 6-1 win over South Africa.
Hockey India President Padma Dilip Tirkey described the result as historic. He commended the team’s hard work, resilience, and fighting spirit that led to this achievement. The Secretary General of Hockey India, Bhola Nath Singh, also praised the team for making the country proud by competing strongly against some of the world’s best teams. The award is expected to motivate the players ahead of the Asian Games.
