Retired Justice Shri Abhay Manohar Sapre, chairman of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, has taken a decisive step to ensure transparency in the process of declaring unfit vehicles as fit. During a surprise inspection of the Bhopal Automatic Fitness Centre located on the bypass on Monday, Justice Sapre oversaw the vehicle fitness testing. The complete fitness process of a particular vehicle under examination was carried out at the centre. When asked about the outcome, the fitness technician declared it as passing. However, upon checking the system, the report showed that the vehicle had failed due to defective headlights and horn. This inconsistency caught Justice Sapre's attention, leading him to direct that such a decision should not be reflected until the fitness report is complete. He also reviewed the entire process and advised officials to ensure that no action is taken which could result in an unfit vehicle being declared fit without completing the prescribed fitness procedure.
