The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) launched a campaign from June to August 2026 to rescue children engaged in child labour and those vulnerable to trafficking. Over 3,800 children were rescued, and over 575 FIRs registered.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), a statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, initiated a 'Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation' Campaign on 12 June 2026. This campaign continued until 31 August 2026. The NCPCR collaborated with state governments, district administrations, labour departments, police authorities, and other stakeholders to intensify the identification, rescue, and rehabilitation of children involved in child labour and at risk of trafficking and exploitation.
The NCPCR issued communications to the concerned authorities requesting targeted rescue operations at child labour and trafficking hotspots. States and Union Territories were also urged to provide regular data on rescue operations, children rescued, FIRs registered, rehabilitation, restoration, educational mainstreaming, compensation, and follow-up measures.
To monitor implementation and address field-level issues, the NCPCR conducted meetings with district administrations. These meetings focused on reviewing rescue operations, addressing operational bottlenecks, ensuring timely submission of Action Taken Reports (ATRs), and strengthening coordination among concerned departments and agencies.
The NCPCR also undertook awareness and outreach through social media and other communication platforms, disseminating information regarding the campaign, child labour reporting, and the importance of rehabilitation and educational mainstreaming following rescue.
