The Delhi International Airport Limited took legal action against 63 social media accounts for circulating misleading posts about flooding at the Indira Gandhi International Airport last week. The false information also included an old video of waterlogging at Dubai Airport shared as footage from Delhi.
On Wednesday, The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced that it had filed a first information report against 63 social media accounts. This step was in response to misleading posts about flooding and waterlogging at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). The allegedly false information, according to DIAL, suggested that operations at the airport were disrupted due to extensive flooding.
Last week, on September 4, a temporary accumulation of water was observed in the airport's Terminal 3 arrival forecourt following heavy rainfall. According to The Indian Express, eleven flights were diverted between 3.30 pm and 5 pm on that day due to bad weather, with five being diverted to Jaipur, four to Lucknow, and one each to Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
DIAL stated that these posts were intended to create public mischief, spread misinformation, defame a critical public utility service, and cause unnecessary concerns among passengers. Despite the temporary water accumulation on September 4, the airport operator cleared the area within 20 minutes without affecting airport operations.
