Addressing the BRICS Summit, Indian Prime Minister emphasizes a people-centric approach for India's BRICS Chairship. He proposes establishing a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism and suggests ten proposals for global governance reform.
India's BRICS Chairship, guided by a people-centric and humanity-first approach, has prioritized resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. With this vision in mind, more than 350 meetings were organized across India to welcome BRICS delegations from nearly 30 cities. The Prime Minister sincerely thanked all participants for their active contribution to the success of India's BRICS Chairship. This year's BRICS Summit marks the 20th anniversary of BRICS, a moment signifying maturity and responsibility. During his address, the Prime Minister proposed several key points:
1. Strengthening BRICS by establishing a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism for systematic follow-up on all initiatives and outcomes.
2. Transforming the current structure of global governance, focusing on representation, responsiveness, and rule-making.
3. Proposing ten proposals for global governance reform, which could be developed into a BRICS Reform Roadmap by the next Summit.
4. Emphasizing the need to reform the UN Security Council text-based negotiations with a clearly defined timeline and concrete outcomes.
5. Addressing the lack of representation in financial institutions, suggesting that voting power, leadership positions, and policy priorities should reflect today's economic realities.
6. Focusing on the speed, scale, and last-mile impact of collective responses to global challenges, including the establishment of a Seafarers Emergency Support Network.
7. Ensuring equal participation in shaping the rules of the future by transforming the Global South from rule-takers into rule-shapers through BRICS.
8. Providing young diplomats and policymakers from the Global South with negotiation skills, practical training, and legal expertise.
