Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announces various measures to support farmers, including zero-interest loans, modern agricultural machinery, and focus on allied activities.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that Madhya Pradesh is observing 2026 as the 'Krishak Kalyan Varsh' (Farmers' Welfare Year). He made this announcement during the state-level Balaram Krishi Mahotsav (Balaram Agriculture Festival) in Sagar district. The festival, dedicated to Lord Balaram and farmers, reflects the government's commitment to their welfare.
The Chief Minister announced several measures to support farmers. Farmers will be provided zero-interest loans through Kisan Credit Cards and will now have to repay them only once a year. The government plans to provide around ₹800 crore to support farmers under this scheme.
In addition, efforts are being made to provide 10 hours of daytime electricity to farmers during the coming crop season and further strengthen power supply for irrigation. An e-token system for fertiliser distribution is also being introduced to reduce waiting times and help curb black marketing.
The Chief Minister encouraged farmers to adopt modern agricultural machinery, drone technology, horticulture, and fruit cultivation. To increase farmers' income beyond crop cultivation, the government is promoting allied activities such as animal husbandry, dairy farming, fisheries, goat rearing, and poultry.
