The Indian Railways has sanctioned the installation of Electronic Interlocking (EI) at seven stations of Solapur Division of Central Railway, with a total cost of ₹209 crore. This modern signalling system will strengthen railway infrastructure and facilitate the implementation of Kavach, the indigenous Automatic Train Protection system.
The Indian Railways has taken a significant step towards modernizing its signalling infrastructure by approving the provision of Electronic Interlocking (EI) at seven stations of Solapur Division of Central Railway. The total cost of this project is ₹209 crore. The approved work involves the installation of EI at Mohol, Mundhewadi, Bale, Solapur, Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin, Shahabad and Wadi Junction on the High Density Network (HDN) 7 route, where Kavach, Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) and Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) works have already been sanctioned. Electronic Interlocking is a modern computer-based signalling system that replaces conventional relay-based interlocking. It provides more reliable control of points and signals, enables faster fault detection and restoration, facilitates easier maintenance and supports more efficient train operations.
This modern signalling system will strengthen railway signalling infrastructure across the division and facilitate the implementation of Kavach, the indigenous Automatic Train Protection system. Electronic Interlocking is not only a step towards improving safety but also aims to enhance operational efficiency across high-density routes.
