Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raghav Chadha has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of deleting his name from the draft voter list during a special intensive revision of electoral rolls. He claims this is a 'clear case of political vendetta' by the AAP government. The Election Commission conducted this revision exercise, and the state government has no role in deciding whose name is included or deleted, according to the AAP.
Chadha was marked 'shifted' by an official of the AAP government, he alleged. He further claimed that officers had deleted his name from the rolls because their transfers and careers were controlled by the state government. According to Chadha, he is a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab with his voter ID registered in Mohali.
Chadha quoted the guidelines issued by the poll panel for the exercise as stating that public representatives should be included in the draft rolls 'so that necessary documents can also be collected during the period of claims and objections'. The guidelines require his name to be included in the draft roll as he is an MP.
Chadha alleged that the party had acted this way because its leadership ‘has been burning with anger’ since he joined the BJP. On April 26, seven of the AAP’s 10 Rajya Sabha MPs, led by Chadha, split from the party and joined the BJP’s legislature unit in the Upper House.
