In a public statement, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raghav Chadha accuses the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of political vendetta for deleting his name from the draft voter list. He claims that officers deleted his name due to control over their transfers and careers by the state government.
On Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raghav Chadha alleged that his name was removed from the draft voter list prepared during the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Punjab. He stated that he is a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, and the Election Commission classified him as having shifted from his registered address in Mohali. Chadha claimed this to be a 'clear case of political vendetta' by the AAP government in the state. He further alleged that officers deleted his name from the rolls because their transfers and careers were controlled by the state government. Chadha also accused the AAP of acting due to anger since he joined the BJP.
Chadha further stated that he was marked 'shifted' by an official of the AAP government. He quoted the guidelines issued by the poll panel for the exercise as stating that public representatives should be included in the draft rolls 'so that necessary documents can also be collected during the period of claims and objections'. The guidelines require his name to be included in the draft roll as he is an MP.
The AAP, however, claimed it was a matter of public record that Chadha was living in Delhi and not in Punjab. It stated that if he no longer resides in Punjab, maintaining or shifting his voter registration was his own responsibility.
