The Bombay High Court has reversed the bail decision of dismissed police officer Sachin Waze, following an appeal by the National Investigation Agency. The court set aside the special court's order that granted relief to Waze in the Antilia bomb scare and Mansukh Hiran murder case.
On Thursday, the Bombay High Court overturned a September decision that had granted bail to former assistant police inspector Sachin Waze. This action came after an appeal filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Antilia bomb scare and Mansukh Hiran murder case. The court set aside the special court's order, stating that it was quashed. The NIA had argued that Waze was involved in a conspiracy to plant explosives near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence in South Mumbai and was also accused of killing businessman Mansukh Hiran, whose body was found in a Thane creek in March 2021. Previously, the High Court had stayed the special court's bail order following the agency’s appeal, keeping Waze at Thane Central Prison. The special court had granted him bail on the grounds that the NIA failed to establish a prima facie case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The bench of Justices Girish Kulkarni and Neela Gokhale, hearing the appeal, noted that Waze was implicated in a serious offence carrying a rigorous imprisonment term of seven years or more under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Explosive Substances Act.
The decision affects the ongoing investigation into a high-profile case involving a former police officer, industrialist Mukesh Ambani, and a businessman.
