Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed officials to expedite efforts to boost milk production, improve economic conditions of livestock farmers and aim towards making the state the Milk Capital. The state has seen a significant increase in daily milk collection and payments to producers.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stepped up his initiative to escalate milk production in Madhya Pradesh and improve economic conditions of livestock farmers with the ultimate goal of transforming Madhya Pradesh into the Milk Capital of India.
At a meeting of the State-Level Steering Committee, Dr. Yadav reviewed the progress made towards increasing milk production and discussed necessary measures with officials, who were joined by Cooperation Minister Shri Vishwas Sarang, Chief Secretary Shri Ashok Barnwal, and other senior officials. The meeting was held after the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) took charge of the MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation (MPCDF) and the milk unions.
The meeting disclosed that daily milk collection in the state increased by 27% from 8.73 lakh kg in 2024-25 to 9.75 lakh kg per day as of July 2026-27. Payments to milk producers also rose from ₹1,477 crore in 2024-25 to ₹1,780 crore in 2025-26.
The meeting informed that 1,926 dairy cooperative societies have been formed in the state, and 801 previously inactive dairy cooperative societies have been revived. A target has been set to establish 3,827 additional dairy cooperative societies by 2028-29 with an aim to establish primary dairy cooperative societies in at least 50% of villages over the next five years.
The Gwalior and Jabalpur Milk Unions have received interest-free loans of ₹4.70 crore and ₹5 crore respectively for milk collection and processing from the National Dairy Development Board.
Key directives issued include increasing milk collection, implementing an IT-based monitoring system for field staff involved in marketing activities, digitising the entire dairy value chain, allocating new dairy parlours in urban areas, installing micro-ATMs at dairy cooperative societies, and encouraging greater participation of women as members of dairy cooperative societies.
