Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, was granted bail by a Delhi court after being detained for a demonstration. One condition requires him to maintain peace for one year.
On Saturday, a Delhi court ordered the release of Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, a day after he was placed under preventive arrest. The conditions imposed on Dipke will be clear once the bail order passed by the special executive magistrate is made public. One of the conditions will require him to maintain peace for one year. According to ANI, Dipke was released from Mandir Marg police station after being granted bail.
Dipke and student leader Neha Bora were detained on Friday in connection with separate demonstrations in central Delhi. Bora was released on Saturday at 5 am. Before his detention, the police had served a notice to Dipke, ordering him not to hold a protest at Connaught Place, citing heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area.
The police added that orders prohibiting gatherings of four or more persons are in force in central Delhi and warned that violations could invite charges of disobedience. The notice also claimed that the political campaign had previously violated the conditions under which permission was granted to it for protests, resulting in a breach of peace and disruption of public order.
Dipke was detained when he was on his way to Connaught Place in central Delhi for the campaign’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ demonstration. The demonstration aimed to wave the national flag in central Delhi as a response to the arrest of the campaign’s leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das, and Ajinkya Shinde on Wednesday.
Ranka and Das were sent to judicial custody for five days by the special executive magistrate court, while Shinde was released on a personal bond. The three men had been arrested after they ‘sneaked into’ Jantar Mantar to protest the authorities’ decision to denotify the area as a designated protest site.
