Under the influence of a deep depression, heavy to very heavy rain has led to waterlogging, road disruptions, and flood-like situations in several parts of six Odisha districts. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rain today, followed by very heavy rainfall in certain areas for the next two days.
Heavy to very heavy rain continues in various regions of Odisha due to a deep depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha.
This weather system has resulted in waterlogging, road disruptions, and flood-like situations in vulnerable areas, with the IMD forecasting extremely heavy rain today, followed by very heavy rainfall tomorrow and the day after.
Six districts, including Koraput, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada, have been affected by the deep depression. A total of 37 blocks, 127 gram panchayats, and 273 villages have reported impacts, along with five urban areas covering 20 wards.
As a response to this situation, the Odisha State Government has mobilized 8,082 individuals from vulnerable areas to safer locations. Malkangiri district has witnessed water flowing over roads and bridges, while landslides have disrupted connectivity in some places.
In addition, a large rock has fallen on NH-16 at Bada Ghati in Ganjam district, causing traffic disruptions between Bhubaneswar and Berhampur.
The government has activated round-the-clock control rooms, deployed Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, and arranged relief supplies. Schools and Anganwadi centres in Gajapati, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi will remain closed tomorrow as a precaution.
