The Defence Minister has given approval to transfer DRDO-developed technologies of conventional missile systems for production within India, aiming to enhance operational capability and reduce import dependence.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has endorsed the transfer of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO)-developed technologies related to all conventional missile systems to the Indian defence industry. The move is intended to increase operational capacity, decrease reliance on imports, and boost domestic value addition. This Transfer of Technology signifies a significant milestone in encouraging greater involvement of domestic industries through indigenous production, subject to relevant qualifications, certifications, and regulatory requirements. The initiative will facilitate the transition of missile system development to industrial production.

The move aligns with DRDO's ongoing efforts to capitalize on Indian industry capabilities for the development and manufacture of advanced defence systems. The ultimate goal is to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, fortify the defense industrial base, and create prospects for Indian Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and other technology partners in the supply chain.
