Rajnath Singh calls for a shift in policy-making approach, emphasizing the need to cater to young people's evolving needs and fostering cooperation across generations.
During his address at the Narendra Mohan Lecture in New Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the importance of moving beyond the concept of 'Policy for Youth'. He proposed a shift towards 'Policy by Youth' and 'Policy with Youth', emphasizing that this change is necessary to cater to the evolving needs of young people. The Defence Minister stated that in a democracy, expressing dissent is a right, but spreading anarchy will not be tolerated. He also stressed the accountability of constitutional institutions as integral to democracy, yet warned against deliberately undermining their credibility. Rajnath Singh viewed the interaction between different generations as a generational confluence rather than a generation gap. The Defence Minister shared his experience of working with leaders across generations during his political career in the Bharatiya Janata Party. He noted that the younger generation brings new ideas and perspectives, and emphasized the importance of learning from one another. Rajnath Singh also recalled his experience of working with civil servants during his tenure as a Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, highlighting the difference in age as an opportunity for the confluence of ideas and experiences across generations.
