A Delhi court has issued a bailable warrant against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee for a defamation case filed by Vikas Sankrityayan, alias Vikas Pandey, over a video posted in May 2018. The next hearing is scheduled for October 31.
On Saturday, Judicial Magistrate Rahul Jain of Saket Court issued a bailable warrant against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a defamation case filed against him by Vikas Sankrityayan, alias Vikas Pandey, in 2018. The case was initiated due to a video posted by Rathee on his channel in May 2018 that allegedly accused the Bharatiya Janata Party’s publicity wing of bribing Pandey to defame the YouTuber. This accusation gained attention when then-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shared the video on social media.
On October 12, the court issued summons to Rathee after Pandey moved an application seeking early hearing of the matter, as Rathee was in India for protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. According to Live Law, this was the reason why summons could not be served to Rathee earlier this week, as his home was found locked. On Bar and Bench's report, the next hearing is scheduled for October 31.
On October 10, Rathee was detained by the Delhi Police from Gurugram ahead of a protest by youth groups demanding the resignation of Kumar. The YouTuber had arrived in the national capital a day earlier to participate in the protest.
