The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, met with H.E. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development of Nigeria, on September 14, 2026. The meeting took place during India's BRICS 2026 Chairship, and discussions covered various areas such as women's collectives, gender mainstreaming, clean energy, social protection, child rights, and digital safety.
H.E. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, fsi, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Federal Republic of Nigeria, met the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Government of India, Smt. Annpurna Devi, on September 14, 2026, at the Ministry of Women and Child Development in New Delhi during India's BRICS 2026 Chairship.
Welcoming the Nigerian delegation, Smt. Annpurna Devi emphasized Nigeria's valuable voice from Africa in shared work for the Global South and reaffirmed the commitment towards strengthening cooperation between India and Nigeria in women and child development under Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership.
Smt. Annpurna Devi shared her views on the power of women's collectives, gender mainstreaming, and leveraging women's collectives to promote entrepreneurship and drive financial inclusion, stating that India is guided by the vision of women-led development under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
The two Ministers discussed areas of mutual interest, including clean energy, social protection and national care systems, child rights, protection, and digital safety, as well as the Ministry's flagship initiatives for the protection and support of children in difficult circumstances.
H.E. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim fsi conveyed her appreciation for the warm welcome extended to her and her delegation and expressed a desire for knowledge exchange and learning from India’s best practices, including in the areas of women's collectives and skilling, financing women's entrepreneurship, nutrition support, women-led governance, and the care economy.
