Surendra Koli, a domestic worker accused of the Nithari killings in India, died by suicide on Friday as reported by NDTV India. Koli was initially convicted by the Supreme Court in February 2011 but was acquitted last year following a curative petition. The High Court had acquitted him in 12 cases related to the Nithari killings in October 2023, and in response to the curative petition, the Supreme Court also acquitted him in the last pending murder and rape case. Koli spent nearly 19 years in prison before his recent acquittal. After being acquitted, Koli moved to Haridwar, Uttarakhand where he ran a tea stall as reported by India Today.
