The Election Commission has decided that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of individuals who have been issued notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to collect the required documents. The purpose is to upload these documents onto the ECINet platform.
During a meeting held by the Election Commission in New Delhi, it was decided that BLOs will visit the homes of individuals who received notices during the SIR. These individuals will not be called for a hearing by the Electoral Registration Officer, except in exceptional circumstances, preferably conducted online. If a hearing is required, an authorized adult family member may appear on behalf of the elector.
The Commission has clarified that these exceptional hearings will take place through online means wherever possible. The individuals who are being visited by BLOs have already received notices during the SIR process. These notices were issued to ensure the accuracy and inclusivity of electoral rolls across India.
SIR has already been completed in 20 States and Union Territories (UTs), including Bihar and West Bengal. The Commission reiterated that the order for the SIR was issued for all the States and UTs with the unanimous approval of the Commission.
Any person whose name has been left out during SIR and wants to include their name can apply to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer. In response, a special drive for enrolment of these electors will be launched by the Chief Electoral officer, District Election Officer, and Electoral Registration Officer.
In view of the request received from CEO Delhi, the period for filing claims and objections has been extended by the Commission till 30th October. The period of disposal of notices and claims and objections has also been extended till 30th November this year.
