S Jaishankar speaks on terrorism, peace, and global economy at an event in New Delhi.
In a speech at an event held in New Delhi to mark the 75th anniversary of Chinmaya Mission, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar denounced the use of terrorism as an instrument of statecraft. He stated that this practice cannot be justified or rationalised. Mr Jaishankar emphasized the importance of a sharper global awareness about this common threat and stressed the need for stronger international resolve to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Speaking on peace, Dr Jaishankar underlined its significance amid ongoing conflicts worldwide, warning that wars anywhere pose a threat to peace everywhere. He cited the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia as examples, noting their far-reaching impacts on societies, economies, and individuals distant from these regions.
Dr Jaishankar also addressed the '4F' crisis faced by the Global South — finance, fuel, food, and fertiliser. He asserted that the Global North must realize its equal stakes in finding solutions and called for an urgent derisking of the international economy, offering more diversified options to nations.
In addition, Dr Jaishankar highlighted the need for genuine dialogue and urged the United Nations to show leadership, rather than being a bystander to global crises. He reiterated the case for reformed multilateralism.
