The Central Government's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) campaign against drug abuse has reached more than 8,565 'Nasha Mukti Mitras' in Jammu & Kashmir and over 11.05 crore youth nationwide.

The Central Government is implementing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) to combat substance abuse through awareness campaigns, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and counselling services across India. In the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, over 8,565 individuals have joined this nationwide movement against drug abuse as of July 29, 2026. This campaign is being implemented by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).

The Ministry provides financial assistance to various entities for preventive education, awareness generation, treatment, rehabilitation, and capacity-building programmes aimed at reducing drug demand across the country. Jammu & Kashmir has been supported with a comprehensive network of de-addiction and rehabilitation facilities, including Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Outreach and Drop-In Centres (ODICs), Community-Based Peer-Led Intervention (CPLI) programmes, District De-Addiction Centres (DDACs), and Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) established in government hospitals.

The Ministry also operates the National Toll-Free De-addiction Helpline 14446, which provides primary counselling and referral services. As of 2026, this helpline has received more than 4.6 lakh calls across the country, including over 11,000 calls from Jammu & Kashmir, demonstrating increased awareness and accessibility of support services.

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign has now been expanded to all districts of the country and is focusing on educational institutions, universities, and schools to create awareness against substance abuse through community participation. The campaign has sensitised more than 29.05 crore people nationally, with over 11.05 crore youth and more than 1.17 lakh Nasha Mukti Mitras joining the movement.
