The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has constituted the Development and Welfare Board for De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Communities (DWBDNC) in February 2019 to implement focused measures for the welfare and socio-economic empowerment of these communities. The DWBDNC is implementing the Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs (SEED), which includes four components: education, healthcare, livelihoods, and housing.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has taken significant steps towards socio-economic empowerment of De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic (DNT/NT/SNT) Communities. The process began with the constitution of the National Commission for De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes in January 2015, which submitted its report in December 2017. Following careful consideration of the recommendations, the Central Government constituted the Development and Welfare Board for De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Communities (DWBDNC) in February 2019. The DWBDNC is responsible for implementing the Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs (SEED).
The SEED Scheme, implemented by DWBDNC, consists of four components: education, healthcare, livelihoods, and housing. To improve access to quality education, the scheme offers quality coaching for DNT candidates to help them excel in competitive examinations.
For the betterment of health, the SEED Scheme supports health insurance for DNT Communities. Additionally, it facilitates community-level livelihood initiatives and provides financial assistance for house construction.
These interventions aim to provide access to opportunities in education, healthcare, livelihoods, and housing for eligible members of De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Communities. The comprehensive approach under SEED seeks to address key socio-economic needs and facilitate greater economic empowerment and improved living conditions for these communities.
