The Government is implementing the IndiaAI Mission to promote AI adoption, aiming to enhance productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs.
The Government is taking steps to foster the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), through the IndiaAI Mission, which was approved on 7th March, 2024 with an allocation of ₹10,371.92 crore. The mission comprises seven pillars designed to democratize AI benefits across society, strengthen the AI innovation ecosystem, and encourage socially responsible growth. These pillars include IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Innovation Centre, IndiaAI Datasets Platform, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI Future Skills, IndiaAI Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI. The mission aims to extend the benefits of AI to MSMEs to boost their productivity and competitiveness. To ensure effectiveness and monitor outcomes, the Government periodically assesses digital adoption among MSMEs through evaluation studies in collaboration with industry and research institutions. The Output-Outcome Monitoring Framework (OOMF) of NITI Aayog serves as an institutional mechanism for evaluating Government interventions.
