During an interfaith prayer meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel stated that Gandhi Jayanti is not just a day to remember Mahatma Gandhi, but a call to adopt his ideals. He encouraged the audience to reflect upon the messages of the bhajans and apply them in daily life as a tribute to Gandhi.
In addition, those present took a pledge to refrain from anger during the meeting. Governor Shri Patel paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and the Gandhi Memorial and offered a garland of spun yarn.
Shri Patel also inaugurated a smart TV, visited an exhibition, and joined the winners of the ‘Aao Jaane Gandhi Ko’ competition for a group photograph. He urged people to refrain from anger and emphasized the importance of a life free from addictions and substance abuse for progress.
The Governor further highlighted that the true purpose of life lies in becoming a good human being and working for the welfare of society and the nation. He stressed the need to imbibe good values in conduct and avoid wrongdoings.
To mark World Day of Non-Violence, Governor Shri Patel called for a drug-free society and encouraged tree plantation, water conservation, and participation in blood donation and social service activities under Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, running from September 17 to October 17, in celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on September 17.
The interfaith prayer meeting held on Gandhi Jayanti reflects India’s great tradition of respect and harmony among all religions. Governor Shri Patel said that India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity.
Addressing the award-winning students, he urged them not only to read about Mahatma Gandhi but also to imbibe his thoughts and ideals in their lives. He noted that Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye, was composed by saint-poet Narsinh Mehta and embodies values such as compassion, truth, equality, humility, and selfless service. The bhajan inspires people to rise above greed, attachment, desire, anger, and ego and to respect everyone.
