The depression over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas continues to affect weather patterns in Odisha, with heavy rain reported from various parts of the state. The Baitarani river is flowing above the danger mark at Akhuapada, while the Jalaka has also crossed the danger level at Mathani in Balasore district.
The heavy rainfall has led to flooding in low-lying areas, prompting authorities to issue flood alerts in vulnerable regions. Additionally, landslides and soil slips have disrupted road communication in parts of southern Odisha, while several areas have reported waterlogging and road blockages.
Schools have been closed as a precautionary measure in Cuttack, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and 399 schools in seven blocks of Bhadrak district. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, particularly over northern and western Odisha, today.
