Union Home Minister Amit Shah meets families affected by drug-related incidents in Punjab, blames the state government for protecting traffickers and assures thorough investigation and zero tolerance towards the issue.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the family members of individuals who were killed or suffered due to the drug menace in Punjab's Mansa and Gurdaspur. During his visit, he also addressed the family of Gulzar Singh, who allegedly committed suicide due to his son's drug addiction. The Home Minister expressed concern over the situation and criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government for not taking sufficient action against drug traffickers. He accused gangs of operating in districts to protect these traffickers and stated that he would hand over two cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a later press briefing in Ludhiana, Minister Shah blamed the Punjab government for its inaction and pledged to make Punjab drug-free by December 2029. He promised a thorough investigation into the case of Parvinder Singh Jhota, which was handed over to the CBI by the Chief Minister.
During a Dussehra ceremony at Ludhiana, the Home Minister symbolically themed the burning of Ravana’s effigy as ‘Ravan of Chitta,’ signifying the fight against drug abuse in Punjab. He assured the crowd that by the end of 2029, the 'Ravana of Drugs' will also be eliminated.
