Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the 13th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-PLUS) at Cebu, Philippines, reaffirming India's commitment to act as a trusted security provider in the Indian Ocean Region and the wider Indo-Pacific. Mr Singh expressed that maritime security is crucial for the peace, security, and prosperity of the region. The theme for this year’s ADMM-Plus, Navigating Our Future Together, aligns with India's defence and foreign policies. According to Mr Singh, India's emphasis on the rule of law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and its advocacy for freedom of navigation and overflight is not aimed against any country. He further stated that India respects maritime safety, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, capacity building, and international law. Mr Singh highlighted India's commitment to collaborate with ASEAN partners to strengthen cooperation in these areas. Moreover, he mentioned that through the deployment of its frontline warships, the Indian Navy has provided security to thousands of merchant vessels and thwarted numerous hijacking attempts at sea. Mr Singh stressed that India's security arrangements extend beyond any specific flag or nationality as it views the security of commercial shipping as a responsibility.
