On Day 3 of the first Test in Galle, Indian bowlers restricted hosts Sri Lanka to a total of 284 runs, securing a lead of 178 runs. The star performer for India was Manav Suthar, who led the wickets column with four scalps.
Ravindra Jadeja also made significant contributions, picking up three wickets. With this achievement, Jadeja became only the fourth player in Test cricket history to reach the milestone of 350 wickets and 4,000 runs. He is also the first Indian left-arm bowler to achieve this feat.
For Sri Lanka, Sonal Dinusha scored his maiden Test century, and Niroshan Dickwella made 80. India was previously bowled out for 462 runs after adding just two runs to their score of 460 for nine on the previous day.
Devdutt Padikkal was India's top scorer with 167, KL Rahul made 82, and Dhruv Jurel contributed 51. For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya claimed four wickets, Keshara Nuwantha took three, and Asitha Fernando picked up two.
The second and final Test of the series will be played in Colombo from the 23rd of this month.
