The Indian Government has released two new indigenous Artificial Intelligence (AI) models named Dhir 2B and Dhir 5B by ZenteiQ, in addition to Eka-1 by Soket Labs. These models are designed for various applications such as cybersecurity, productivity enhancement, and enterprise-based AI usage.
The Government of India has introduced three indigenous AI foundational models: Eka-1 by Soket Labs, Dhir 2B, and Dhir 5B by ZenteiQ. The launch of these models represents a significant stride towards strengthening domestic AI capabilities within the country.
According to Secretary of the Electronics and IT Ministry, S. Krishnan, the public release of these foundational AI models marks an important step towards building a strong and strategic AI ecosystem in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Krishnan further stated that these models have diverse applications, including cybersecurity and can significantly enhance productivity and operational efficiency. He also highlighted that they can be deployed in air-gapped environments, opening new possibilities for secure AI applications within various sectors like defence, government, industry, and education.
EKA-1 is a Foundation Model with 26.3 billion parameters and trained on 7.5 trillion tokens. It showcases advanced capabilities across all 22 scheduled Indian languages and English, featuring math, code, reasoning, and agentic use.
Dhīr 2B and Dhīr 5B enable offline-capable, document-grounded automation, knowledge retrieval, and citizen or enterprise services across multiple sectors. These models are particularly useful in low-connectivity or sensitive environments.
