On August 31, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. This was their first meeting since Pashinyan's re-appointment following Armenia's general elections in June this year.
Modi congratulated Pashinyan on his electoral victory and office assumption. Their discussions focused not only on expanding bilateral cooperation in various fields such as defence, economy, pharmaceuticals, mining, education, and culture but also highlighted the recent progress made in these areas. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with this progress and committed to further strengthening these ties.
The leaders also discussed regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia. Modi reiterated the need for continued dialogue and diplomacy to secure peace and stability in the region. Pashinyan briefed Modi on the status of Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Agreement implementation.
Both the leaders agreed to work together to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
