Defence Minister Rajnath Singh discusses the increase in defence exports and self-reliance in ammunition production, as well as India's role in global security architecture.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking at the Times Now Defence Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, highlighted that India is exporting indigenous defence products to nearly 100 countries worldwide. He stated that the figure for defence exports has significantly increased over the past thirteen years, with the total amount reaching more than ₹38,000 crore in 2025-26.
Mr Singh also emphasized that India has achieved more than 90% self-reliance in ammunition variants. He explained that out of 175 Ammunition Variants in the Indian Army’s inventory, 159 are indigenous.
The Minister further mentioned that over the past twelve and a half years, the defence sector has not only expanded its capabilities but has also undergone a strategic shift in its approach towards strengthening national security. He stated that the government is building a defence ecosystem aimed at both reinforcing India’s role in the global security architecture and driving economic growth.
Mr Singh also underscored the preparedness of India's armed forces, stating that they are fully prepared to face any challenge. He referenced Operation Sindoor, Balakot Airstrikes, and Surgical Strikes as decisive shifts in the nation’s approach towards combating terrorism.
Reiterating India’s stand on cross-border terrorism, Mr Singh asserted that any further terrorist acts originating from Pakistan would invite an even stronger response.
