
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry reports that India's Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation increased from 9.78% in July to 9.92% in August, with the rise being attributed to higher prices in various sectors.
According to data disclosed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation has risen from 9.78% in July to 9.92% in August on an annual basis. The surge is due to increased prices in mineral oils, food articles, food products, basic metals, non-food articles, chemicals and chemical products.
In terms of major WPI categories, year over year inflation in the Fuel and Power group jumped significantly to 22.9% last month, as compared to 20% in July. Inflation in Manufactured Products experienced a slight rise to almost 8.4%, moving from 8.3%. However, inflation in Primary Articles decreased slightly to approximately 7.8% in August, as opposed to 8.5% in July.
The WPI Food Index, which includes food articles and food products, increased to 7.05% in August, up from 6.65% in the preceding month. Moreover, the Output Producer Price Index increased by 9.81% year-on-year in August.
