The J&K government, following extensive consultations with various stakeholders, is finalising an eco-tourism policy to conserve natural resources, regulate tourism activities, promote community participation, and create sustainable livelihoods. The policy's drafting process involves the Department of Tourism and is expected to be completed within six months.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government is in the final stages of formulating an Eco-Tourism Policy. This policy, aimed at establishing a comprehensive framework for the conservation of natural resources, sustainable use of eco-sensitive areas, regulation of tourism activities based on carrying capacity, promotion of community participation, and creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities, is being prepared by the Department of Tourism. The department has informed the Assembly Secretariat that it is actively engaged in drafting the policy following extensive consultations with Tourism Development Authorities, line departments, environmental experts, local communities, tourism industry representatives, and other stakeholders. According to the government, the policy will be finalised and notified within six months after the consultation process is completed and the approval of the competent authority is obtained.
