In Jammu & Kashmir, authorities have ordered all school buildings found unsafe or damaged due to recent heavy rains to be locked immediately and kept out of use until necessary repairs are completed. This directive came from Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, during a review meeting assessing rain-related damage across the Jammu division.
The Divisional Commissioner emphasized student safety as the top priority and instructed district authorities to swiftly identify vulnerable school buildings without delay. In addition, officials were directed to expedite the restoration of damaged power infrastructure and evaluate crop losses for providing assistance to affected farmers.
Meanwhile, at least 27 people have lost their lives and six others remain missing in rain-related incidents across Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, and Ramban districts since July 19th. District administrations have been asked to ensure adequate stocks of essential commodities are available in vulnerable areas in anticipation of further rainfall forecasted for July 29th and 30th.
