Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Khalistan separatist leader, claims the FBI warned him about a new threat to his life on August 20. He also alleges an unnamed individual employed by the Indian government's foreign intelligence service was involved in a plot against him.
On Tuesday, The Globe and Mail reported that Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is also the general counsel of Sikhs for Justice, claimed he received a warning from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on August 20 about a fresh threat to his life. According to Pannun, FBI agents advised him not to travel until the threat was resolved and to inform the agency if he planned to travel. Additionally, Pannun alleged that an unnamed individual employed by the Indian government's foreign intelligence service, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), was involved in a plot against him. The R&AW has not commented on this claim.
In February, an Indian man named Nikhil Gupta pleaded guilty to a plot to kill Pannun, allegedly on orders from an Indian government employee. However, the Indian government has not commented on Gupta’s guilty plea. The unnamed individual, identified in court documents as Vikash Yadav, reportedly worked for the Cabinet Secretariat of India, which houses the R&AW.
Gupta is expected to be sentenced on November 20 by a federal court in Manhattan.
