Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and other officials inaugurated a new defense project in Jabalpur worth more than ₹475 crore.
On August 27, 2026, Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav launched the T-Series Tank Overhaul Project in Jabalpur. The project is valued at over ₹475 crore. This event took place as part of the Global Investors Summit 2025, which aims to attract investments exceeding ₹16,960 crore for defense manufacturing on 373 hectares of land in the Gwalior-Chambal region.
The T-Series tanks have played an important role in keeping the Indian Army strong. Over the past four to five years, around 4,400 T-72 and T-90 tanks have been supplied to the Indian Army. The project in Jabalpur will enable the overhaul of 80 tanks every year. Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is responsible for manufacturing vehicles for the Army at its Jabalpur facility.
The Jabalpur project is a significant step towards achieving greater self-reliance in defense production as India aims to reduce dependence on foreign supply chains for critical defense equipment. The Indian government plans to focus on manufacturing weapons domestically, ensuring their repair and maintenance, upgrading them with modern technologies, and developing new capabilities.
