Raj Thackeray, leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has criticized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and questioned the increase in voters between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections.

On Sunday, Raj Thackeray led a protest march against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR process. The rally was jointly led by Raj Thackeray and his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, chief of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).

Speaking at the rally, Raj Thackeray questioned the deletion of voters through the SIR process, saying that two crore people had so far been removed and asking who those voters were. He also criticized the increase in the number of voters between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections, stating that 40 lakh to 60 lakh voters were added in the state between the two elections.

Thackeray accused the Election Commission of allowing parties to decide which party forms the government, and called for the people to have that power instead. He also raised concerns over access to the digital electoral roll database.

According to a report by The Indian Express, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally objected 14 times in 10 months to decisions by the poll panel related to the special intensive revision, stating that some decisions were taken without their knowledge. They also raised concerns over access to the digital electoral roll database.

This marks a recent political alliance between the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Shiv Sena.
