The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is making headway with Special Campaign 6, focusing on areas such as e-waste disposal, records management, space optimization, grievance redressal, and the transformation of public spaces like Kumartuli Ghat.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and its organisations are actively implementing Special Campaign 6, making significant progress towards achieving the identified targets. The campaign concentrates on crucial areas, including the disposal of e-waste and scrap, effective records management, space optimisation, grievance redressal, and rejuvenation of public spaces. As part of this ongoing campaign, 173 cleanliness Campaigns have been conducted, 33,199 physical and e-files have been reviewed out of which 9,808 files have been closed or weeded out. Revenue worth Rs. 9.79 crores has been generated from scrap/e-waste disposal, freeing up 88,171 sq. ft. of space, resulting in improved office space management and environmentally friendly workspace and surroundings.
In a notable initiative, the transformation of Kumartuli Ghat by Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), in collaboration with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) is underway. This endeavor aims to transform the ghat, which had fallen into a dilapidated condition due to prolonged neglect, into an inclusive, clean, and sustainable public space, demonstrating the campaign’s emphasis on the rejuvenation of public spaces and community welfare.
Senior officers of the Ministry have actively participated in Swachhata-related activities, setting an example through their direct involvement in cleanliness drives, beautification of office premises, and improvement of surrounding areas. The participation of officers and staff has reinforced the importance of cleanliness, workplace discipline, and collective responsibility in institutionalizing Swachhata across the Ministry and its organisations.
