Indian PM attends SCO meeting in Kyrgyz Republic marking its 25th anniversary, emphasizing peace, security, and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 26th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic from August 31 to September 01, 2026. This year marks SCO’s 25th anniversary. During the meeting, leaders discussed progress and exchanged views on furthering SCO’s role for peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region. In his address, PM Modi thanked President Sadyr Zhaparov for hospitality and expressed that this was an opportune time to lay a roadmap for the next 25 years of SCO. He emphasized India’s vision of Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity, and called for concrete outcomes in these areas. PM Modi reiterated India’s stance against conflict resolution on battlefields and urged dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward. He also stressed the need for committed action to dismantle the terror ecosystem and highlighted security in the Eurasia region's close link to peace and stability in Afghanistan. PM Modi further underscored the importance of strong and trusted connectivity initiatives, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations. He expressed support for connectivity efforts that enhance trade, open new opportunities, and promote technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, start-ups, and people-to-people initiatives. PM Modi also announced India’s intention to host the first edition of the SCO Civilisation Dialogue Forum later this year. Besides adopting the Bishkek Declaration, four MoUs, and over twenty decisions and statements were adopted in various fields such as climate, nuclear safety, energy conservation, and combating drug addiction.
